What Makes a Great Insurance Agent?

About Me

What Makes a Great Insurance Agent?

When you are shopping for any type of insurance, you are going to want the help and advice of someone who understands the insurance business and who is truly interested in helping you protect yourself rather than making the most money. Unfortunately some insurance agents are in the business for their own benefit and will not tell you when you are paying too much or are buying insurance that you simply don't need. I am a former insurance agent, and I have seen the best and worst. This blog is about noticing red flags when it comes to sneaky insurance sales people and about finding the signs of a truly good agent.

3 Things You Need To Know About Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

When it comes to car insurance, there are a lot of different types of coverage that you can add to your insurance policy. One of the least known kinds of auto insurance coverage is mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI).

What Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Covers

When your car breaks down unexpectedly, it can be expensive to deal with all of the repairs. When something happens to your car that you didn't plan for, in addition to being a car disaster, it can also be a financial disaster.

Mechanical breakdown insurance covers surprise mechanical issues, such as an issue with the transmission or something going wrong with the steering mechanisms. Mechanical breakdown coverage sometimes will cover things such as your stereo malfunctioning or the hardware on your vehicle getting damaged. Some mechanical breakdown insurance policies also cover things such as rental car coverage while your vehicle is getting fixed up.

What Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Doesn't Cover

Mechanical breakdown coverage is not designed to cover all the maintenance and repairs that your vehicle needs. It is not designed to cover routine maintenance, such as getting the tires aligned, getting the air filter changed, having the oil changed or getting the refrigerant in your air conditioning refreshed.

You are also expected to take care of things such as normal wear and tear on your vehicle. Mechanical breakdown insurance coverage is for unexpected breakdowns that couldn't be taken care of with regular maintenance coverage.

Where to Get Mechanical Breakdown Coverage

Not all insurance companies offer mechanical breakdown coverage. Many larger national insurance companies do not offer mechanical breakdown coverage, but many smaller regional and local insurance companies offer mechanical breakdown coverage as well.

What Vehicles Qualify for Mechanical Breakdown Coverage

Finally, not all vehicles qualify for mechanical breakdown coverage. Usually, you have to have a new car with under a specific number of miles in order to qualify for mechanical breakdown coverage.

If you have a new vehicle, you should talk to your insurance agent and see if you can qualify for mechanical breakdown coverage. It can be a great back-up policy to have in your pocket. Talk to your insurance agent and see what other types of policies you can add to your insurance in order to really protect your car and the investment that you made in yourself. There are lots of insurance coverage options outside the normal coverage that can benefit you that you can look into.
